nature things:
- bukit timah hill (https://maps.app.goo.gl/7E7Tzqf14e9n6xMVA) is one of few things that singapore has that is like a mountain. but it's kinda low and small if you’ve lived literally anywhere else
- henderson waves (https://maps.app.goo.gl/V9Aag8ocNzNMtfki6) is a bridge near mount faber (the other thing that is approximately a mountain), it has lovely views at sunset
- i like the botanic gardens (https://maps.app.goo.gl/bHkDrYWkqbnJQDBJ6), which are also very accessible by train
- east coast park (https://maps.app.goo.gl/UvQ9dsx4oxScvgtb6), rent a bike, cycle through gardens by the bay, and hang out at marina barrage (https://maps.app.goo.gl/NDdPS7TGoL1B2Lav6) to watch the sunset or hang out or something
- day trip to pulau ubin (https://maps.app.goo.gl/gdK8nPFWW2KU7rUu6), a cool island. you’ll start the day at changi village hawker center (https://maps.app.goo.gl/4HYcg3tmsCbgRa5Z9), hanging out there for breakfast, then catching a "bumboat" (yes that’s the name) from changi point ferry terminal (https://maps.app.goo.gl/u3HqFQs8MCosq3BF6) to pulau ubin. note that you’ll want to make sure you leave before everyone else leaves because the boats will just stop running at some point. also you should almost certainly rent a bike on the island to cover more ground, plus it’s a vibe. there's one or two restaurants on the island, and they're kinda overpriced lmao. bring water and drinks unless you enjoy overpaying for things
- sungei buloh wetland reserve (https://maps.app.goo.gl/pCnaq4ULTDcbjyGy5), have never been but i’ve heard it’s cool
decidedly non-vegetarian food:
- my favourite laksa place in singapore (https://maps.app.goo.gl/E3aPeJ95KQQp3XtbA), that i lived very close to for a while; laksa is rice noodles in a rich coconut broth served with some seafood stuff. also a good chicken rice place (https://maps.app.goo.gl/eF1eBqjJRM1qPUf77) and yong tau foo place (https://maps.app.goo.gl/NP4aT9yST3es3wX56) place; yong tau foo is tofu/vegetables stuffed with fishball things, you pick the items and then ask for them to make it.
- my favourite place to have satay (https://maps.app.goo.gl/b3eLzDyUsWrypXeS8) and enjoy a nice walk along the beach/park, more on that later; satay is skewered meat cooked over charcoal served with a peanut sauce. this hawker center also has my favourite hokkien mee place (https://maps.app.goo.gl/Bxe4m8rP1d6rh2P46); hokkien mee is a stir-fried noodle + seafood dish. also good here are the barbecued chicken wings. get some sugar cane juice, or a whole coconut, and just vibe ✨
- JUMBO seafood (https://maps.app.goo.gl/Xt7kDX8aUCKXuG4Y6) is a chain which notably does chili crab. i strongly suggest getting chili crab while in singapore, though it does not need to be at this specific chain
- bedok 85 market is known for having good bak chor mee, from this stall particularly (https://maps.app.goo.gl/V3Djp8vep7JqsTcH8) but also the one next to it. bak chor essentially translates to minced pork, and mee = noodles, so it’s noodles with minced pork among other stuff. normally it’s served with thick noodles (mee pok) and a dry sauce, but at this place it’s soup and thin noodles (mee kia), and it’s really really good. also common/good at this food market is sambal stingray (it tastes like fish but a little chewier, the sambal is quite spicy though so be warned)
- there honestly is more but it’s region-specific bc i dont like travelling massive amounts for food unlike the median singaporean LOL (except for the laksa).
- other dishes i would recommend are prawn noodles / mee (prawns and noodles generally in soup), nasi lemak (coconut rice with a bunch of toppings like fried fish or deep-fried chicken wing or fried egg or fish cake etc), char kway teow (long flat rice noodles stir-fried with a bunch of random stuff but often seafood), bak kut teh (boiled pork ribs served with a extremely rich pork soup, rice, and sometimes chinese donuts and tea) and others that i cant immediately think of
- its also really funny to go to a hawker center and have what singaporeans imagine to be "western food", which is a comically large slab of meat generally served alongside with spaghetti/fries, baked beans, and coleslaw LOL
- a kelong is a floating fish farm, and some of them are also floating seafood restaurants (e.g. https://smithmarine.com.sg/), it's pretty cool
- prawning is both entertainment and food at once (https://thesmartlocal.com/read/prawning-in-singapore/)
- i recall a bespoke gin bar that i really liked, i think it’s this one? https://www.instagram.com/oriental.elixir/
touristy things:
- i feel like the singapore zoo is probably pretty mid, there are other zoos. the night safari is a cool experience
